Is hydrogen more antioxidant than vitamins C and E?

Many friends who love hydrogen medicine tend to be emotional when they promote the medical effect of hydrogen. It seems that they cannot express their love for hydrogen medicine without the strongest. For example, hydrogen is the strongest reducing agent. In fact, hydrogen is not the strongest reducing agent. The strongest reducing property in nature is free electrons. The reducing ability of hydrogen atoms is also relatively large, but the reducing ability of hydrogen is not very strong. It is basically correct to say that hydrogen is the best biological antioxidant, and that it is the strongest reducing agent.

One of the reasons that hydrogen has a strong antioxidant effect is that the molecular weight of hydrogen is relatively small. One hydrogen molecule can provide two electrons, while one vitamin C has a molecular weight of 176 to provide one electron. It seems that the antioxidant effect of hydrogen is 352 times that of vitamin C. In fact, anti-oxidation is not only the amount of electrons provided, but also the difficulty of providing electrons. Vitamin C's ability to provide electrons is stronger than hydrogen, so it cannot be said that hydrogen has a stronger antioxidant effect than vitamin C.
The earliest field to discover the biological effect of free radicals is to find that the basis of radiation-induced cell damage is the increase of free radicals, which can produce oxidative damage to cells. Since free radicals in the body generally have an oxidizing effect, simple reasoning suggests that antioxidants with strong reducing ability can fight free radicals and avoid oxidative damage.

However, with the deepening of the research on the biology of free radicals, people have gradually discovered that the basic role of intracellular free radicals is not a harm, but a key component to maintain cell function. Without free radicals, there is no normal cell function.
More importantly, it is found that there are many types of free radicals. Although most free radicals are indispensable for cellular functions, some highly oxidative free radicals such as hydroxyl radicals are extremely harmful to cell molecules. Current research evidence shows that hydrogen can selectively neutralize hydroxyl radicals, which is the most ideal hydroxyl radical selective antioxidant found at present.

The advantage of hydrogen is its selective antioxidant effect, which is also the theoretical basis for the biological effects of hydrogen. Selective antioxidants are not equal to the strongest antioxidants. It happens that hydrogen does not have too strong reducing characteristics, and other substances that are more reducible than hydrogen, such as vitamin C, lack this selectivity. It is also the reason that vitamin C cannot produce the wide range of biological effects of hydrogen.

Therefore, hydrogen is not a strong reducing agent, and it is a very ideal biological reducing agent. The biological action of hydrogen mainly depends on research evidence rather than simple theoretical reasoning. Among various antioxidants, hydrogen has a very large penetrating ability because of its smallest molecular weight, which is also an important property of hydrogen to play its role.

Of course, the medical effect of hydrogen has been widely valued, and another key reason is its high biological safety. Safety and effectiveness are the foundation of medical applications.
In short, hydrogen, which has a selective antioxidant effect, is superior to vitamins, but it is not stronger than these substances.
